Alexander Spit & BAGO

Alexander Spit is no stranger over here at the NHBHDBRNS but I gotta say with confidence this is my favorite project from the rapper/producer yet. Spit and up-and-comer BAGO are killin’ it as a duo. Great vocals and the beat quality is on point. The duo has only released two tracks so far both being heavily original. I’m a fan of anything in minor, dark tones and these tracks deliver so of course, have a listen and go fall in a ravine. I hope the wolves have at you.

CB

CEREBRAL BALLZY. BROOKLYN, NEW YORK. HARDCORE PUNK.

I don’t care if I’m the only one that writes for this site that likes punk I’m posting this anyways. CB is a young band but who isn’t now-a-days? I love that fast-paced, chaotic rhythm, it’s just good ol’ fashioned punk damnit. I wont front, last night I was watching Adult Swim and the video for CB’s song “Don’t tell me what to do” came on so credit to them for this post. Give credit where it’s due, folks and right now credit goes to Cerebral Ballzy. STAND TALL! By the way I also don’t care that we don’t sign our posts on the site anymore I’m doing it anyways.

SAMIYAM!

WHOA. This is crazy good. So much to say about not only this album but SAMIYAM’s catalog of instrumentals. Slow “chopped & screwed” like electronic beats, depth, fluidity, almost as if Nintendo was a record label. “Sam Baker’s Album” just released over a month ago in June and where the hell was I? Well I have to get some Panda Express because his collection of grainy sex beats took a lot out of me so please, if you listen to ONE thing I post let it be this.

Go to sleep, Hoe

Introducing Anika… Well, not really. Her self-titled debut album, Anika, came out in December last year via Stones Throw records and was produced by Geoff Barrow of Portishead. Anika’s vocals are almost hard to listen to for me at first but it’s just too damn funky and reminiscent not to like. A collection of sounds can be heard throughout; punk-y, dub, trashy reverb, new wave 80′s pop. Needless to say I’m a sucker when it comes to anything Stones Throw so I may be a little jaded but give it a listen. LUDA!!!

Aight, One More.

CHICO MANN IS MY FAVORITE ARTIST RIGHT NOW AND I’M SO UPSET THAT I CAN’T FIND ANYWHERE TO GET HIS MUSIC!

This dude is raw though he genuinely has his own sound. Credit to PhotobyTone for that stupid good video.

PAINT.

I’m not a huge graffiti/ street art/ smart guy but it’s not hard to appreciate it. I know a few of the main, very well known and respected artists but I’m definitely not a beacon of knowledge that’s why I enjoyed this video spot so much. Thanks to Hypebeast tv we can get an inside peek at POW WOW Hawaii which is an exhibition of artists that allows people to watch artists create instead of focusing so much on the end result. We don’t talk much about art here on Neighborhood Brains and that’s mostly because we’re trying so damn hard to put Pitchfork face-down in the gutter. WE BEAT YOU TO YOUTH LAGOON YA JERKS! Anyhoo, just peep the video. Much respect to POW WOW’s creator and founder, Jasper Wong!

IGNORED

I’m posting this on account of no one read’s my posts anyways. According to the “site” “stats” I, Brett, am an un-readable piece of sh** and have nothing important or relevant to contribute to the Neighborhood Brains. So, from this moment forward if and only if I continue to post I will be sharing links to various “snuff” films I find on the internet.

MOS ON MF

Look, Mighty Mos Def is a living legend and when he speaks I listen.. even if he’s high in the studio. It’s 7 minutes I know but just watch it. “I bet a million dollars on DOOM vs. Lil Wayne, waddup?” sheeeeeeit I agree. Just so you know what kinda rhyme scale you’re dealing with heres one track by DOOM as Viktor Vaughn (an alias) that gives me moose bumps.

FRISCO WADDUP? This is Alexander Spit. “Kinda Sorta Blues” is my favorite track off of his first album released through The Hundreds.. ya, the clothing line love ‘em or hate ‘em. Spit has worked at THSF and currently works at THLA unless I’m mistaken. Although he is an L.A. native now his bay area roots can definitely be heard. What I like more than Spit’s music is his humility, I’ve met him several times and he actually put me on to one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Anyways, I’m a fan of his music and his very humble attitude. Good dude, good tunes so enjoy it you filthy animals.

I AM HE!

I’m the cooky, funny one. I’m gonna make you say “OH NO HE DI’INT.” No, but seriously I’m happy I can be doing this with friends. The internet today is a tricky medium.  It’s so readily and easily available that information is forgotten almost as soon as it’s posted. How many people actually go 6-7 pages back on a blog or website? unless it’s a Tumblr with lots of topless hipsters? I hope my friends and I… The Neighborhood Brains can separate ourselves from the mass of cigarette smoking elitist bar hoppers who have a computer.
